Description

A replica of the Iron Man Movie helmet, key features:
-Fiberglass helmet made from scratch. This was made from sheet foam material, then moulded and cast to make a rigid one. More at: http://xrobots.co.uk/IM6/index_moulding.html
-3D printed Mechanics to make the faceplate open, designed in Autodesk123D Design and printed on a Lulzbot AO-101.
-Light up eyes which you can still see through made from scratch from formed Acrylic sheet, windows tint, scrim fabric and LEDs.
-OLED display to display status from the suit including menu navigation.
-433Mhz wireless link using Manchester encoding to allow two button menu driven control for all functions.
-All driven by a PICAXE-08M

http://hackaday.io/project/865-Raspberry-Eye - this could be an interesting alternative for the display positioning in your helmet, so that you don't have to squint your eyes.

Great looking build! The write up on casting is particularly interesting, but it does look like a messy process.

I've done carbon fibre before, that was a huge a mess.... though we botched the resin/hardener ratio and had to work very quickly.
