I wanted to power my arduino and the wsb2812bs from the same source when running, but didn't want to kill my usb port when programming, so I used some diodes from a rectifier.

I think that Arduino has a mosfet in there that cuts off the USB power if you connect external power.

I was worried that when I connect the VCCs that the current drawn by the ws2812bs would kill the usb connection. It's both 5V and I'm not using VIN.
