uranium marble

This project was created on 10/06/2015 and last updated 3 years ago.

Description

Seven UV LEDs facing inwards on a circle around a uranium glass marble, wired as a ring oscillator to create a beautiful glowing/spinning effect.

This is my take on the original design that has apparently been around since at least 2009 (at 26C3).

  • 7 × UV LEDs
  • 7 × 2N7000 transistor Discrete Semiconductors / Diode-Transistor Modules

have you tried to make laser with uranium glass? However that could have made you cancer.

Thanks for the reply, I got some 385 and some 400nm from digikey, the 400nm were cheaper and work better

Very nice!

What wavelength LEDs did you use?

Are you sure? yes | no

Sorry, a friend had those LEDs just lying around so I don't have any info on that. You can clearly see them emitting visible light... if that helps. Not sure if the marble reacts to one specific wavelength..
