Reckless Tedium

One shift register down, one to go. No electrical tests yet, but all sixteen leads move with the chip when I give it a nudge. Wire is from a 28 AWG stranded bundle, which turns out to be 7x36.

You could tombstone the part and solder it on the PCB on one side. i.e. chip standing up at 90 degrees and solder fillet between PCB & the vertical pads. That would give you some mechanical support and 6 less wires to worry about.

That's a great idea, actually. The hardest leads to land were the first ones because the chip wasn't secured. I've still got four boards left that are otherwise worthless, so I might give that a try.

Thanks! Yeah, it happens--that's what I get for rushing through the whole process, I suppose. 3 ICs is three times the number I've done before on a PCB design--I can't imagine what I'd mess up with a more complicated circuit. Hah!

Thanks! I'm using a big 3x ring magnifier; might be time to get my hands on a microscope. I'll definitely encase it in epoxy if it works.
