Tiny Ruler

A simple Atmel ISP programmer or experimentation/development platform using a Tiny45/85

Similar projects worth following
This device is a simple Ruler with an Atmel ISP programmer (USBtinyISP) or a simple development/experimentation platform using the micronucleous Bootloader.
I developed it as a single-layer board with the least possible components so it can be made in any pcb lab and doesn't cost too much.

At the Moment I havn't made a prototype but I will make one soon :)
  • 1 × Attiny45 (or 85 - maybe better for experimenting) Microprocessors, Microcontrollers, DSPs / ARM, RISC-Based Microcontrollers
  • 2 × 68Ohm Resistor 1206 Package
  • 2 × 3.6V Zener diode in sod80 package Later I will make one for sot23 package (I have thousands of those...)
  • 1 × 330Ohm Resistor 1206 Package
  • 1 × 1.5k Resistor 1206 Package

I finally etched the board and soldered everything I had at home (the micro usb socket and the attiny are on their way ;D )

Also I managed to fit the sot23 version of the zener diodes on normal 1206 pads (I had 3000 of them at home...)

    After etching:

    After cleaning & silver-plating:

And finally after cutting and populating:

The pinheader is glued to the board using super-glue.

  • Touch it!

I made a version of the board with a touch sensor and a programmable led on board to make it a bit more useful as a little development board :)

Etch the pcb (maybe use black FR4 and silver plate the traces? would probably look very cool ;) )

    Step 3

solder the components to the pcb starting with the smd components (there are very good how-tos on smd soldering)

I just read you comment on the schematics pic with the footprint of the attinys... i can totally relate to that, made me laugh and give you a skull ;)

Does the AVR relate to the ruler at all, or is it a ruler/dev board? Seems like a good way to give away useful boards, even if they don't get built.

I combined the ruler with the dev board because I wanted something to play with at school in boring computer/programming classes.
And I also wanted it to be useful without a PC and have it replace something in my pencil case because it's really full all the time :D
