Fork for people with no fingers

We have created a fork for people with no fingers

Similar projects worth following
In a team of 3 we have created a fork for people with no fingers, after having received instructions and requests from a fingerless person

When we choosed to work on a fork prothesis, we begun by working on two types of prototypes. In one hand we worked on an "horizontal" prothesis (in the same position as the daggers of assasins creed) in the other hand a "vertical" prothesis ( perpendicular to the palm of the end). And as you will see in the next notes we choosed the "vertical" one.

After we created the two new parts we found velcro tape and used it the tighten everything together.

We saw at the end the we maybe had a good idea but it was difficult to do it a 3d printer because parts and details were too small and so not precise. We also maybe, if we had more time,  developped a 3d printed mechanism to tighten because velcro can be difficult to use and not enough strong to keep the fork in place.

After Diego, the kid who asked us to make a prototype, tested our main part that was the one carrying the fork. He  told us that he liked the idea of the "perpendicular prothesis". With the support of Diego we had only to find a way to tighten the fork in the prothesis with a lid. So we created these two new parts.

Today we were able to test our prototype with a fake hand of the kid and discovered that the handle was to short and so we decided to modify it. We also decided to find ideas for an universal mould.

And we finally round all the edges to make it confortable and safer.

This is the last prototype of the "horizontal" prothesis, we choosed to stop to work on this because it's too big and uncomfortable for the user.

  • Prototype and issues to be solved

It is the first real prototype for a vertical prothesis, our problems are that it is not stable and the casing is only made for one particular fork.

In the future, we want to solve these problems: Casing made for all types of forks and a system so that the fork is stable and doesn't fall, our current ideas for the stability issue is a lid for the fork.
