Two-thirds of the world’s population face the possibility of water scarcity and developing rural communities often lack water purification infrastructure. This project aims to develop a practical electrostatic fog collection system that doesn't rely on external electricity to operate, whose water collection rate is comparable to existing systems powered externally, and which avoids the disadvantages of existing systems. A high voltage triboelectric nanogenerator was designed and developed, to power the electric discharge in air. It was successfully integrated with a novel fog collection system, inspired by the "harp-like" fog net design. TL;DR it pulls water out of thin air.
