We are working to make the Sigzig so it helps avoid those moments by offering +-5V low-noise data logging with overvoltage protection up to 50V indefinitely. I know that there have been times where I'm measuring a circuit with multiple voltages. Its not uncommon to accidentally hook up to the 12V line when you meant to tap into 5V signal. Now if you do this, you will still be totally okay. A little peace of mind is a good thing.
