For me, a robot isn't a robot if it can't do anything on its own. I didn't want to use a Raspberry Pi to take over a Roomba simply to have a remote controlled vacuum. So, I got this idea to get it to navigate without bumping into anything by using data collected from an ultrasonic ping sensor. I guess you could call it a "roombat," except for the fact that it doesn't fly. Raspberry Pi will be processing data from the ping sensor and using the results to determine which commands to send to the Roomba via serial.

July 7, 2015 - Okay. So a little update. I am waiting for a couple items to ship via slow boat from China. In the meantime, I cleaned up Frank (short for Frankenroomba) and removed the parts I don't have any use for. I'll try to get some photos up before the end of the week.
