I don't think it's a good idea to remove the transmissions (drivetrain), you will lose the force multiplier. There are systems (Motor PMG + inverter) 98% efficient causing a great performance.

I have several vehicles that would make ideal donors if anybody's interested in starting a joint project......
I'm interested in using hub motors to eliminate all the drivetrain BS.
