It is absolutely possible to traverse the elevator without connecting to anyone. @Cory is correct.

I think instead of pressing on the up-down-right-left touch capacitors, if you circle it like you do with an old iPod, it will bring the green dude down to the lower level??

I can verify that I was able to get down the elevator before connecting to another badge. I'm not sure what exactly human-to-human connection unlocks.

Also, I was able to traverse the elevator without connecting to another human. From what I can tell the only change for Human to Human is that in the Ramen shop, you just get a message that says "The stranger next to you accidentally knocks your ramen on the floor. Great."

I have been told the second red AI might enter by connecting to a speaker as well.
