I cut apart some double walled tumblers for this project. I was originally going to just keep the cup as one piece, but I thought it would be more interesting to be able to swap plants out with the upper half. There are some 5mm leds in this cup, but I don't really talk about it in the video. I thought it would be useful, but it's hard to see them and it was more work than it was worth!
Sealing around the silicone straw proved to be the biggest challenge. Of course, attempting to use hot glue to seal it was my first downfall... But switching to silicone sealant was the key here.
I was going to use 3d printed "trim" pieces to cover the edge cuts on the cup, but I thought those would just be too chunky and weird. So I went with adhesive vinyl, which I thought would be great! Or not. It kept peeling off - I guess that's what you get using cheap craft vinyl (and pulling it tight against curved surfaces).
