A project log for Shop Reorganization

Putting my house in order

One of the first steps I'm taking on this project is trying to improve my cad skills.  I have been working with Fusion 360 for quite a while now and I really like it as a tool. However up to now I have typically only modeled one part at a time in a project, even for complex projects.  I'm trying to learn how to model larger projects as well as how to model for wood working rather than focusing on 3D printing like I have in the past.

To help things along I spent some time searching around online for a good resource on learning to use Fusion for wood working.  I did not find a lot of free content that was worthwhile, but I did find a Udemy course that seems to be well made called 'Fusion 360 for Hobbyists and Wood Workers'.

I have only made it about half way through the course so far.  It seems to go at a nice pace and everything is well explained.  The projects are interesting as well and it is focused at using Fusion in the workshop.  The only negative is that this was put together a while ago and the UI in Fusion has changed over time. They tried to patch this up by remixing some of the videos but not all of them. This helps, but it makes things feel a bit disjointed at first.  It is not a show stopper, you can work around this, but it is a small annoyance.

They do have this interesting idea of having a beginner follow along with there lessons and make a video sharing there thoughts. This is really nice, but part of the discontinuity since the beginner is referencing the original videos and not the new ones.  That leads to them talking about things that you don't see in the actual tutorials.  Still it is a nice touch and a good effort. And the nature of software is change and all lessons will suffer from this same problem.
