The future of wireless surround sound - WISA technology. Picture this: up to 8 channels of immersive audio, and speakers that come alive with power-packed WISA receivers. Sound too good to be true? That's the challenge I'm taking head-on.

But here's the kicker: you won't find WISA receivers just lying around waiting to be bought. Nope, it's proprietary, and adds a tantalizing twist to this tech task. Imagine the thrill of cracking the code, of crafting something truly unique.
Right now, we're at the conception stage for what promises to be a game-changer in home entertainment. Think Bluetooth, but beefed up, or a Sonos-like ecosystem.
Embarking on a project to explore and potentially build a WISA-based reciever sounds like an exciting endeavor, especially given its proprietary nature. This venture could involve experimentation with various components, protocols, and perhaps even reverse engineering aspects of WISA.

Details

I already own a basic WISA system.

How to set it up, in a nutshell: It connects to your TV via HDMI Arc, plug in the usb power. That's it!

The workhorse, in my eyes, is the transmitter. You can buy them anywhere, even on

Amazon as a single device, or part of a system.

Since I already have 5 speakers (which sound incredible), let the reverse engineering begin!

What We Know So Far

Transmitter to receiver link uses the U-NII band radio spectrum -
- The Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) frequency bands are part of the radio frequency spectrum from 5.150-7.125 GHz defined by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It is used by WLAN devices and some ISPs and radio operators.
Audio: 8-channel,24-bit uncompressed audio, delivered at 44.1, 48, and 96kHz sample rates
