Helium is seems good choice for providing lift. Just looked a some calculations, these things won't be small ( for 1kg lift we need about 1.2 diameter balloon). Serious calculation needed to check effect of wind on such a large object.

Thinking of using existing drones in vertical orientation.

-need to use compass for direction

-GPS cordinates for navigation.
