For Starling I was looking to display message that 'matter to user' and not us. IFTTT (if this than that) is great way to let off the control to the users and let them decide what the need without a single line of code on their end. Some of you might have used it on web but it is really cool when it works on HW. It looks a great fit for user focused IoT stuff. I made a small tutorial:
