CERN open hardware license. ? Or any alternative
MW Motors wrote 08/27/2015 at 09:26 • 2 pointsDoes anyone have experience with this? http://www.ohwr.org/projects/cernohl/wiki
Do we just say or product is licensed under this or do we fill in some forms & register it with them or?
Anyone know of any alternatives. I am trying to find the best way to officially open source https://hackaday.io/project/5066-luka-ev

There is a howto that explains how to apply the license to a project.

Here an example how I handle it for one of my board designs:

I use it for all my hardware projects. I live in the same country as CERN and confident that they made sure that it's at least compatible with our national law.
When dealing with hardware, a license should tell how patents are handled. CC licenses don't do that, afaik.
Have a look at the best practices by the 'open source hardware association', there is also a paragraph about licensing.

I tend to use CC licenses for hardware. You can customize as you see fit (non commercial, attribution, etc or wide open). I have not seen the cern license before, but it looks interesting..
