The Bendy PCB Material

rAfter @davedarko started his experiments with #flexible pcbs

UPDATE: 2015-09-17

i wanted to show the Material which i meant:

It is thin FR4 with both sides Coper. It can be used like a regular PCB but its much more bendy.

I try to make something blinky with it. The Last Time i used a similar Material for some of the #The Atmega Hearth Projects :-) although the PCBs were not bend, the shape of the PCB was easy to cut out with a better Scissor. But take care: The edges are razor sharp.

Here another Picture, the thickness is about between 1/4 and 1/3 of a Milimeter, idk exactly bc. i didn't have a suitable tape measure ready...

Hope it inspires you a bit ;-)

----------------------- UPDATE ------------------------------

Well i etched the Material today. Now it realy bends well, but unfortunately the copper was a bit hard to etch and the "etchmask", which i added with a marker, went away...

I was a bit suprised, that it wasn't a FR4 or the usual PCB Material its rather a heat resistant foil, but you can still burn holes in it, when you don't pay attention or want to.

It bends well but didn't end well until now. I planed to source the LEDs with the

TLC59116 16-Channel FM+ I2C-Bus Constant-Current LED Sink Driver.... and mounted all LEDs the wrong way (Common Cathode instead of Common Anode) :-(

... Gremlins.... you shouldn't draw or manufacture PCBs after sunset...

Better don't ask... 2 LEDs are not working, 2 LEDs share the same wire (shorted lines) and 1 LED is to much (Only 16 Outputs) ...

But at least it was kinda fun to solder (sew) it together.
