Easy learn to solder kits? Any recommendations?

I don't think they're the best or cheapest they could be but when people want to learn how to solder I often see these. I bet you've already seen them. I can get one for 3-10 bucks at Fry's Electronics.
I'd rather spend 5$ on a cheap "DIY LED Electronic Clock Kit Red Blue Green LED" from China. Could be tough for a beginner without help though.

A few people at my hackspace are pretty into creating solder kits.
One of them runs regular SMD build nights, which are excellent. Relevant repo, which has a lot of assembly notes, and generally excellent documentation:

We also have a few through-hole badges, but I can't find the sources online :(
