i need someone to build this idea i have
cuyler wilkinson wrote 04/22/2016 at 08:38 • 0 pointsmy uncle is hard of hearing and i myself am huh'ing a lot more. as i have read about the smaller computers being produced i wonder if someone could build a handheld 7" lcd or led screened micro computer with voice recognition.
in 1998 i had phillips freespeech '98 and after a long tutorial i could use it flawlessly whenever i dictated to it. it was so good that it typed whatever i said from the dinner table some 20+ feet away and shunning the wife and kids conversations even with the tv going.
it also typed everything the head JAG said on that program and not the others.
then i had dragon naturally speaking in the early 2000's.
i am good with electronics just don't have a clue where to start.
with this handheld it could be held or worn on arm aka "dick tracy style" to view what others are saying to me. surely the VR programs have advanced by now to obtain a more versatile speech recognition injection by now. maybe this type of device is already on the market and one of you kind souls would direct me to it . maybe i have given someone a vast fortune if developed.thanks ahead of time.

Thanks for the replies! I'm finding newly released products here & there and with the synergies provided here maybe a device will unearth itself soon.

yes this is along the lines of exactly the type of idea i am speaking of.
now think financially challenged. cool word for poorasfolks and low income families.
much less the device is on almost all of the time.
i.e.: downtown at an intersection if a meteorite is falling to earth someone yells "watch out" "move" "get the " device vibrates person glances at the wrist wearable device and moves accordingly. say an old c.b.radio squelch control on it for a noisy environment .
also a friend of mine has a sultry voice whispering "talk to me" greeting for voice mail. just a suggestion for a name for device.
but hey and thanks outlawpoet for the info. i had not viewed this in crowdfunded projects.

yesterday i searched tty devices . there are numerous companies attempting to build apps on a current development list yet none even listing mobile VR or SR on the list.
my first computer was a tandy color computer III and i ran a"clapper" through the cassette printer port to a relay which switched a lamp. in 1999-2000 i worked construction and with phillips freespeech98 i had a separate radio to talk to the computer in my office to take notes about issues around the job site. i would come back review my dictated notes, edit them, e-mail to my residence, streamline a report at night, print it out and fax it to the home office done & done. quit wondering-the tandy was replaced in 90 with an array of the next best things.
one of the forums i view is aac and i found the Pine A-64. a $15 64 bit (this drew my attention as the tandy had 8 bits or something to that effect) cell phone sized device in the development stages and vying for crowd funding.
i envisioned that with 4-6 or more mics on board with a 7" tft (correction) monitor like i use for my fpv aircraft. taking to long so i'll stop for now.

although for your specific purpose a smartphone with an app would probably suffice. As to who's gonna make that app... I dunno.

this is kind of what I've been wanting to do for a long time (except that the purpose of the speech-recognition would be for user input first and world sensing second), but with a wearable HUD-style screen. I am currently doing research on the HUD part, but I'll probably start using&cknfiguring my Onboard Pi with a surrogate regular screen anyway. So stay tuned, maybe I'll post it in a project soon
