Open Source Electronics Startup Questionnaire
PixelDud wrote 11/06/2019 at 23:30 • 0 pointsI’m contemplating starting a business that sells open source consumer electronics and I made this form to try and get more information on the possible consumers (makers) so that the products could be made more to their liking. I’ll possibly have more forms similar to this in the future, so stay tuned.
UPDATE: I’d also appreciate it if y’all shared this, I have a few possible investors but they need to know that there’s a market first.

"Would other people buy those products" If they were cheaper or had more value than similar offerings then yes. If the only quality is "open source", then most people would not buy that, only enthusiasts which want to make something new with it (and then maybe go and make it a commercial product or just an app on other phones).
Overally - good luck :).

Thanks.

I’m trying to figure out what would set it apart from other electronics companies but I’m not sure yet, do you have any ideas?

At least one of:
- better games
- cheaper
- something not possible on closed source electronics (like easy interfacing with some hardware)
- easy extensive customization
- longer lasting battery
- better bluetooth support (especially for speakers, they very often chop sound)
If it was easy to think of something which sets them apart from other companies AND people want, it would already be done. But it's THE hardest thing currently. Probably the best way is to make something so customizable, that you can develop/emulate in software some high-end features for cheaper. Or add some extensibility to something not extensible yet.

If you explain what you're doing, you may find more people can be bothered to click the link.
