FPGA Boards: where to buy for cheap
Ansaf Ahmad wrote 03/25/2015 at 05:11 • 2 pointsHi, I am a highschool student at Port Credit Secondary school and my Computer Engineering teacher is keen on teaching us how to use fpga boards for projects. He is also reluctant at the same time due to the high price of these boards. I really want to learn how to use a fpga board and I want to learn how these things work, therefore I am asking you guys where can my teacher find fpga boards for a low price point, even a basic entry level fpga board will do and does anyone know a reseller who gives a deal for bulk buys. Thanks :) !

It has some pretty solid options that aren't necessarily very well-known

The mojo V3 seams really nice, and it has even arduino derivative on it.

You will hardly get anything cheaper than this, and consider tha it also has an onboard programmer.
But you will have to use the Xilinx ISE 14.7 software which is quite good but has been replaced with a Vivado tool(does not support Spartan6 and student would spend more time managing GUI than programing VHDL/Verilog)
Xilinix ISE 14.7 will therefore no longer be updated by Xilinx(which is not a bad thing when you have to prepare instructions for students)
I am also in the process of designing an FPGA board for our universtiy and even with sponsored/discounted parts and services I don't now if I can get the price down to 40€/board (discounted price limited to 1 board per student) and boards will have 5 sposors logos on them.
