I started this project about a year ago when the rear of my TS100's case broke. I think this is a fairly common failure mode for this soldering iron and I hope version 2 will come with a full metal case just like the TS80.
For an "Open Source" soldering iron there is alack of cad models or even dimensions online. This is what led me to create a replacement housing model.
It is not perfect...yet. I really want to opensource this project so people can improve it.
When I designed it I was learning SolidWorks for University which is why the files are in that format. I am planning to move them to FreeCAD. If anyone is interested in helping please let me know! The main issue is the mounting system as it needs to fill these criteria:
- be 3D printable
- be strong (avoid layer separation)
- do not compromise ergonomics
This design has been on Thingiverse for a while
