While a buying a Telsa may have been a better option...I recently set off on a quest to make my 2017 WRX's infotainment as intelligent as possible. I assembled a few preliminary plans and ultimately decided to use an Android tablet as a front end, with a Raspberry Pi as an integration point to the car and to handle much of the intelligence and processing of data.
To throw a twist into it, we'll be using an Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) tablet. We'll need to do some custom work there; this should be easy. The majority of the initial focus will be to build out the actual platform and get everything working. I already have a head unit in the car, which will remain as the audio output for the car. This will eventually be replaced for a four channel amplifier driven by a quality pre-amp board from the tablet.
