I used the MAX17502 IC as I had samples already, so I followed the design equations in the datasheet before choosing specific components.

One of the most important steps of designing power converters is part selection, so make sure to take into consideration DC bias of capacitors and inductor saturation levels - all at the "worst case scenario" values.

Once parts were chosen I did the PCB layout using EasyEDA to try it out, and ordered 5 boards from JLCpcb. I hand soldered the SMD components to one of the boards for testing but in the future I will probably avail of their assembly service too.
