Kendo is Japanese sword fighting. Due to corona we couldn't train (as much) so of course some members decided to start a band. Since I cannot play a musical instrument, the only logical option was to turn my bamboo sword (shinai) into a microphone; Giving me the ability to still partake in this band. The idea is to add a piezo element to the bamboo inside the shinai and transmit the sound via Bluetooth or something similar. This would turn it into a contact mic allowing us to incorporate the sound of kendo better into a kendo themed song (compared to recording the sound via normal mic). Different exercises would have a different rhythm and sound (maybe). Hitting different parts of the armor might also have a interesting effect. Later I realized that we could also use it for training data analysis, though that was not the initial goal.
