Athena

An FPGA based reconfigurable PC

Similar projects worth following
The Athena is a TinyFPGA based PC platform.

The Athena is an FPGA based PC with the intended capability of being able to rewrite the bitstream for each FPGA from each FPGA. This would unlock the ability to switch CPU modules on and off, change instruction sets, change GPU features etc. This project has been on going for one year, and more details are yet to come!

  • 5 × TinyFPGA BX The TinyFPGA BX fulfills the need for a socketable, general purpose FPGA chipset.
  • 1 × Arduino Due An Arduino Due is used to communicate with the SPI pads on the underside of the TinyFPGA's to rewrite the bitstream for each FPGA as needed.
  • 8 × APM6404 64Mbit RAM https://www.electrodragon.com/product/2pcs-ipus-ips6404-iot-ram/

Ladies and gentlemen, my apologies for the absence! I've come down with a pretty nasty summertime cold, but do not worry! I am planning on posting an anatomy of the project with a roadmap of goals, a build log about my attempts to get the video section up and running between all internal units, and a brief preview at my own RaspberryPi distro focused on FPGA programming. I'm sweating bullets to get this project wrapped up and delivered to the public, as there are many other great projects that already come close! Stay tuned!

Here is a substantial part to this project from November of 2020, when the project was about four months old.

Hello, world! This is Andrew from Monarch, here, officially stepping out of the shadows to share my work with you all! I've been working on this project for about a year now, and have kept it under wraps for a variety of reasons. However, I am now ready to share my vision and work so far. Please stay tuned for more updates! (I owe a lot of explanations here hahaha)
