An NE555 circuit was created with active and passive electronic components and easily purchased for the 50th anniversary of the creation of the 555.
It could be said that it is entirely made by BJT transistors, since both the OPAMPs and the compounds are made by this type of transistors.
The 555 was made by Hans Camenzind in 1971 and was released by the Signetics company in 1972.
