That's going to be a series of displays featuring various different vintage LED display ICs such as mdl2416c, hdsp2000, hdsp2112 and possibly some others, whatever I can get my hands on.

So far, two versions of VinDisplay has been successfuly built and tested:
- mdl2416x_x10 - features ten mdl2416c - 4 character, 16 segment LED display
- hdsp2112_x6 - features six hdsp2112 - 8 character, 5x7 dot-matrix LED display

RP2040 is used as a controller and it is intended to work with printers that use Klipper firmware.

Current version of firmware and hardware schematics available on Github: https://github.com/meadiode/vin_display
  • 10 × MDL2416C Displays and Inverters / LED Displays
  • 1 × Custom PCB and commonly available parts: RP2040, MIC23050, SN74HC, resistors, caps etc...

Those tiny red letters have a certain charm. Great to see them put to good use. 👍

Looks great. Very cool idea. I considered doing something similar until I discovered that single, 8 character HDSP2112 would cost €50,-..

Thanks, I've been keeping an eye on ebay and other marketplaces for quite a while, sometimes there are good deals there. I managed to score a bunch of hdsp2112s for well under €50 a piece, although they were obviously well used and de-soldered from somewhere, but still work perfectly.

I used the similar Broadcom HCMS-2972 parts in my MCM/70 Repo project. Yup they were expensive but the end result was so worth it for me.
