A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to learn more about vacuum tubes, and specifically magic eye indicators. After repairing an old Hickok tube tester my dad had given me some time ago, I collected different magic eyes, some of them quite rare. So I decided to make a display case for them, using vintage hardware that would have otherwise gone to waste. Combining a couple of circuits I found on the Internet, I created a circuit board that would power multiple magic eye tubes and move the eyes to music, as in an audio level indicator. I procured different faceplates from old radios, as well as a vintage cabinet from the same era. I also got a Frankenstein’s Lab castle to use as the center of the display. The castle had been damaged and its inner motor workings were no longer functional, but I was able to work with these defects, adding another set of magic eyes where figures were originally placed. To make the display truly functional, I added a Bluetooth module.
