Description

We’ve all had a Gameboy before. What if we make our own Gamepad with our own self invented games?

We can make a Gamepad from cardboard using the Tokymaker and some sensors. You can find an example game below, but feel free to be creative and create your own.

Ball Game Instructions

Let us program a Ball game!

The objective of the game is to avoid the balls coming from the right. This is obtained by moving the slider. If you move the slider, your ball will change in height. If you touch the wall, its game over. Touch “Touch Pad 2” to restart and 1 or 3 to control your speed. At the end of the game your score will be printed on the screen.

The inputs are:

  • slider
  • push buttons
  • sonar sensor
  • tilt sensor

The outputs are:

  • speaker
  • LED strip
  • vibration

Materials & Tools

Tokymaker

Learn to code your own prototypes using the simple visual coding interface and just one finger and program it without installing software or connecting cables.

 LED Strip

An LED strip is a flexible circuit board populated by surface mounted light-emitting diodes (SMD LEDs) and other components that usually comes with an adhesive backing.

Cardboard

Heavy-duty paper-based product with greater thickness and superior durability

 Sonar Sensor

Ultrasonic sensors are non-intrusive in that they do not require physical contact with their target, and can detect certain clear or shiny targets otherwise obscured to some vision-based sensors.

 Slider

A potentiometer is a three-terminal resistor with a rotating contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider.

 Box Cutter

Also known as a retractable blade knife is a great tool to cut cardboard or paperboard.

 Tilt sensor

Tilt sensors and inclinometers generate an artificial horizon and measure angular tilt with respect to this horizon.

Speaker

A buzzer or beeper is an audio signalling device.

 Push-buttons

A push-button or simply button is a simple switch mechanism for controlling some aspect fort he input.

Velcro

A type of fastener consisting of two strips. One strip is covered with loops and the other with flexible hooks. When the two strips are pressed together the hooks will grab onto the loops.
