We imagine the Hippocampe ROV project with a simple observation: the growing need for water quality monitoring. Faced with the threat of climate change, including sea level rise, monitoring of these environments becomes important.
However, the concept of taking measurements in the aquatic environment using an electronic device, such as a drone, is not new. The first use stems from drones responsible for detecting underwater mines, such as the Blackghost AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). Recently, a new AUV, Tavros02, using solar panels, has been designed. These drones are often very expensive and limited in use, intended for people or businesses that can afford to buy them.
