1 × 3D printed X-Carriage Use a heat-resistant material due to close proximity to the hotend. Colorfabb's PA Neat is used in this project, but ABS/ASA or a material with a similar HDT should suffice.
1 × 3D printed Hotend Mount Use a heat-resistant material due to close proximity to the hotend. Colorfabb's PA Neat is used in this project, but ABS/ASA or a material with a similar HDT should suffice.
1 × 3D printed Hotend Clamp A heat resistant material is not required for this part. Please note that the clamp file is designed around an E3D V6.
1 × 3D printed X-Axis Endstop Offset Optional, depending on the width of the hotend mount. HEat resistant material is not required for this part.
2 × 3D printed End Cap Puller by Kadah https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2738089 Use socket head screws, at least 30mm long,
2 × LM6LUU linear bearings The bearings can recovered from the stock carriage, but it is easier to buy new bearings. Ensure that the new bearings are properly cleaned and lubricated before use.
12 × M3x5x5 Heat-Set Insert M3 heat set inserts, 5mm diameter, by 5mm length. 4x is the minimum to attach the hotend mount only (see below for optional components).Slightly shorter lengths will work, but the longer length (5mm) is recommended to ensure maximum thread engagement. "Double-Twill" retaining notches are preferred due to the higher pull-out. Optional: Use four of these inserts for additional mounting options (such as the X-axis endstop offset) Optional, use two of these inserts for attaching a lighweight extruder to the hotend mount
4 × M3x8 Screws Button or socket head will work for this hotend mount. 4x required
2 × M3x30 Minimum length =25mm, 30mm is recommended for this hotend mount and clamp. Button or socket head will work for this hotend mount.
2 × M3x20 Optional, for use with the Orbiter extruder only. Button or socket head will work for this hotend mount. A longer length will work (within reason), but may not be as aesthetically pleasing since it will stick out below the hotend mount holes.
1 × M3x T+5 Optional, where T is the thickness of the X-Axis endstop offset part. Button or socket head will work for the part. A longer length will work, but an excessively long length (>T+35) will extend out the opposite side of the carriage and will not be aesthetically pleasing.
1 × Direct Drive Extruder Optional, test is pending. The extruder must be lightweight to prevent excessive deflection of the cantilevered X-Axis.
1 × Soldering Iron A basic 25 W soldering iron with a conical tip was used to press the heat-set inserts into the 3D printed plastic parts. A similar heat source such as a wood burning 'pen' should suffice, depending on the heat resistance of your 3D printed parts.
1 × Flat blade screwdriver A similar thin, flat rigid object may suffice - this is used to push the belt into the carriage
1 × Hex key 2mm for button head screws, 2.5mm for socket head screws
