Not sure what the benefit would be. It's only a single LED so update time isnt' an issue and at present I'm only running 3 wires total (DIN, VCC, GND). But, I'll check those out regardless for potential future use. Thanks for the tip!
you should check out the APA102C LED it uses two wires for serial but can be updated much faster than the neopixel can.
