The goal of this project is to create a compact raspbery pi powered information display. The inital usecase is for a small magic mirror display but the design will also be usfeull for other info/status displays or things like a digital photo frame.
Key design goals
* ~ 7in display
* fairly thin
* can be powered over POE
The current design thought is to use a 7in 40 pin tft display and use a compute module based controler board directly behind it, in thorey this should allow the thickness from the front of the display to the rear of the tallest components to be under 2cm.
To get this project started I have built an inital proof on concept using off the shelf components. This version uses an adafruit 7in tft display and hat along with a modified pi POE hat (the i2c lines to the fan controller needed to be cut as they are used by the display). The photo below shows the setup running a simple magic mirroros setup.
This setup will allow me to evaluate weither the project is usefull enougth to design and build the integrated version and to confirm if the current display will work ok (the vertial fov seems a bit narrow so might not work too well in a vertical orientation).
