Using this bootloader, Arduino boards with support for Bluetooth Low Energy can be updated with new software over the air. Boards with or without support for BLE can also be updated using UART. This is based on optiboot, which was introduced on hackaday in 2010.

If you create an product based on Arduino, you will be able to update the firmware for this product on the field from your iPhone or Android app. You can push new features to a product that has already shipped or issue bug fixes for it.
