Duck TV

A fun (and slightly silly) window display for the window of Maker Space

Similar projects worth following
When we Maker Space (based in Newcastle upon Tyne) moved in to an old bank with a big window on to the street we decided we should put some projects on display. To get things going I mounted this photo frame in to a box, covered it in a wood style covering, and put lots of pictures of ducks on it. Two ducks then turned up to watch the TV.

The background to this project was TOG Dublin, a hack space from, well, Dublin give us a duck as that was there logo. I then told them how I had accidentally taken a photograph of a plastic duck every day for two years (let's just let that one go for now) so they gave me another.

When we moved in to the new space I set up the "Duck TV" using photographs from my "Duck 365" project and left the two ducks to watch it. This was supposed to inspire creativity and be in place for a couple of weeks. It kind of backfired as more and more ducks started turning up over time. Almost a year later we took out Duck TV to show other cool things instead, but the ducks stayed. We just can't get rid of them.

Just in case you were thinking this was a good idea I feel I should warn you that this project did get out of hand. We now have a full collection of duck swimming in the window. We can not get rid of them or we will disappoint kids (of all ages) who come to the window just to see them.

Also yes, the duck in the balloon is slowly floating up and down.

Measure out and cut a hole the size of the screen on one side of the box.

Cover the box with the vinyl covering. This is best done by rolling it on while pressing down with a ruler, then trimming and folding round the edges.

You did a great job to make this Duck TV program. I want to embed it with my website. You can see it here https:reminiapk.co/
