I operate a network of homebrew raspberry pi (mostly) driven embedded systems that record video events when there is motion input to their webcams. The data is rsynced to a central repo.
This network has helped on a few occasions, one such being providing some data to police in response to a sketchy event through my back alley.
I'd like to eventually adapt it to capture quality mugshots in night-time darkness, in my car. In the event someone breaks in to my car, it'd be satisfying to have video of the event to hand over.
This isn't currently a public project, though it could go that way. The main enabling software I use is "Motion". Check it out.
