Just a stupid idea. But Very handy for small testing and sort-of works.

Simple Power supply :
- Low Cost.
- Easy to Build.
- Easy to Use.
- Easy to Troubleshoot.

My little lab needed little power supply. For testing and simple powering purpose. Main goal here is

  • Should be extremely low cost.
  • Should be Single layer, for DIY PCB Etchers.
  • Should use components, which are easily available.
  • Should be,
    • Easy-to-Assemble
    • Easy-to-Test
    • Easy-To-Troubleshoot.

Circuit designed around:

  • LM317 Adjustable regulator. With Heat-sinks.
  • DC Socket at Input.
  • Low cost SMD 1206 Rs & Cs.
  • LED for POWER Indication.
  • Terminal Blocks for each Output.
  • Bonus USB-A-Female Connector [+5V],

Well, As stated earlier, My goal is to design board such a that any DIY PCB etcher can do.

So, I gave special preference to net classes, by making all of them to 1 mm. [thicker traces are best in Iron based toner-transfer method]

I choose DipTrace PCB tool to design the board, It's really an easy tool to work with.

Speaking of placement, I followed K.I.S.S.[Keep it Smart & Simple] rule, and tried well for it.

LM317 being widely used regulator. It's circuit is straight forward and proven. It didn't take much time to put all the pieces together. And within no time I was ready with Schema.

5mm LEDs at the output end of each LM317, to indicate the ON/working status.
