This design was heavily inspired by Siren, another antweight drum spinner: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3168700

Designed entirely in TinkerCad.

I designed it to use 2 N20 motors (probably 600rpm) which hopefully should be held in place with the motor mounts in the chassis.

Uses a malenki nano ESC. But will probably fit a BBB Dual ESC, might need to shave off a few grams for that though.

The motor mount is designed for a BE1806 2300kv Brushless Motor.

The drum has a space for a 3mm bearing on one side while the motor should be press fit into the other side. The drum should be held in place with an M3 12mm bolt and M3 nut.

Build this at your own risk, I haven't even tested it with a weapon yet. This is a work in progress.

  • V3.2 Update

Small update this time, just added some top forks so that the drum doesn't scrape the ground when inverted.

  • Version 3.1 Build

Version 3.1 is finished, quite pleased with it!

No issues making weight now, sitting at 139 grams.

Very fast and solved some of the spacing issues I found on the weapon motor mount in V2.1.

It does drive inverted, but the drum catches on the floor, could be used to self-right but I'm yet to test this.

Not quite sure where to go next with this design, I might add a block just in front of the switch so that the drum doesn't catch on the ground when inverted. Other than that it seems to be working perfectly, could potentially use the extra 11 grams to add some armour to the front plates.

Updated versions of the drum and chassis arrived.

The space for the switch is a little tight, had to cut some material away to make it fit.

Everything now fits in the chassis, though it's currently sitting at 154 grams, so I need to find a way to save 4 grams...

The screws holding the lid on need to be raised above the switch so it can still drive inverted.

I currently have a less chubby version of the chassis/lid which I'll get printed soon. Hopefully that should save the extra 4 grams. This version also has a lowered fit for the switch to help it run inverted, alongside increased space between the stand-offs to fit the switch in easier.

  • V2 Build Cont.

Managed to get the weapon motor/ESC installed.

Found out the drum was too wide to fit.

Removed 3mm from the drum and ordered another print.

Currently looking like it might be a gram or two over the weight limit, will have to find a way to drop some weight.

Ordered a print of the chassis, lid and drum. All printed in ABS with 20% infill.

Unfortunately the front wheel blocks were preventing the wheels from moving, the wheels are also quite difficult to fit into the chassis, I've widened them for V2.1.

After butchering the V2 chassis I've managed to get the drive working.

I had to remove the front block for the wheel arches (clumsilly with rusty clippers).

The motor mounts also broke immediatly after putting the motors in, they still function fine with the zip ties, but the sides cracked off. These could potentially be printed seperatly with a less brittle material.

The weapon motor and ESC should be arriving tomorrow, so I'll update with progress when I get my hands on the parts.

  • V2.1 Update

    Ezra03/24/2022 at 19:20 0 comments

    V2.1

After trying to build it I found out my maths was wrong (unsurprisingly). Wheel arches were preventing the wheels moving freely.

I also found that the top parts of the motor mounts were snapping, glad I added the zip tie holes now.... if they snap off during a build it works fine without them. I'll try and add pictures to show where the breaks are.

Updated the files to reflect changes which should fix this. Also added a mount for the switch.

I removed the previous motor mounts as they didn't quite fit, replaced them with these: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5217954

Removed the clips to hold the lid on and replaced with holes for M3 8mm screws.
