Body Wand Hack

Repair and Modding a Body Wand

Similar projects worth following
So a friend of mine has a Body Wand "Massage Unit" lol... Sadly these units are mass produced and over time it seems that the nearly all suffer from similar issues, the mechanics seem to be robust but they tend to get wet for some reason.

This particular version is a 240V mains powered unit and dampness + electricity usually are not a great mix.

The bearings, casing and head were fine, not much play in the bearings and prety sure they will last for years.

Having built and designed a few other similar devices I decided to craft in a new motor, add a better controller, convert it to 12V so it can be used from a car cigarette lighter plug for those long journeys or plugged in to the mains via a 5A 12V adapter and add a few more features.

NOTE:
The rear down photos are of a slightly different version because I forgot to take photos of this one when I stripped it. the mechanics are roughly the same except for the speed controller.

And a video of the finished unit running

Cut of the original POT/Switch from the original board, Isolated the connections and wired it to the Arduino using the switch part to select the mode and the pot to adjust the speed.
