Who I Am

I am Ethan Chew/spacefelix. I have been part of the hacker community since 2008 starting with Makers Local 256 in Huntsville, AL (256.makerslocal.org) and the space exploration community since 2007 with the National Space Society (www.nss.org). I have done projects ranging from permaculture gardening, near-space ballooning, high-altitude rocketry and UAVs.

Why I'm on Hackaday.io

There is an opportunity to share what I have done with the world and teach. I volunteer at local schools to bring projects into the classroom and teach students making and technology.

Things I've Built

UAVs

I have been involved in UAVs from University Design-Build-Fly ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design/Build/Fly ) to developing a UAV education program for high school students to teach the engineering and piloting skills for UAVs.

HAL5 Project HALO

This was a project done by the Huntsville, AL National Space Society Chapter, HAL5, to develop a launch vehicle for lofting 2 kg over 200 km above sea level. I did rocket guns & engines. Web: http://chapters.nss.org/al/HAL5/HALO-Intro.shtml

HackerSpaces In Space (HSIS) - Makers Local 256 Contest Entry

Makers Local 256 participated and won 1st place in the national 2010 HackerSpaces In Space (HSIS) competition. We were to do near-space balloon flight photography for under $150/flight. Wiki: https://256.makerslocal.org/wiki/HSIS

Permaculture Garden

This was a permaculture garden I built at Makers Local 256 2010 to 2011 in Huntsville, AL. I used companion planting to create a healthy ecosystem for the plants. Wiki: https://256.makerslocal.org/wiki/MakerGarden_2011
