Hexastorm is an open-hardware laser scanning engine designed for high-speed, high-resolution direct laser imaging (LDI) in PCB lithography and photopolymer 3D printing. By utilizing a high-speed rotating refractive prism scanner, it achieves rapid raster exposure on photosensitive substrates (such as UV solar paper, dry-film photoresist, or cyanotype paper) without expensive galvanometer systems or slow Cartesian gantries.
Specifications and spot metrics were characterized via direct camera-sensor exposure (without a lens) and analyzed using OpenCV. For in-depth theoretical analysis and background, see the blog.

- Motion Control: 3× TMC2209 silent stepper motor drivers + high-speed laser diode driver
Status & Results
The toolchain accepts standard SVG layer exports directly from KiCad and compiles them into synchronized raster/motion commands for the scan head.
Single-facet exposures on UV photo paper easily resolve sub-60 µm features. Ongoing optimization is focused on mechanical backlash compensation (~100 µm stage play) and seam-width calibration to eliminate slight overlap between adjacent scan lanes.
